Uckfield celebrated its 2010 carnival in style yesterday (Saturday 4th September 2010) with a children’s procession starting proceedings at 1.30pm.

The procession began at The Victoria Pleasure Ground, walking down and then up The High Street before finishing at Luxford Field. This led onto the prizes for the children’s fancy dress competition.

The weather was good which helped bring out a decent crowd that lined The High Street waiting in anticipation for the procession to go past.

At Luxford Field, Steven’s Fun Fair had a great range of rides and had opened up on Friday night as crowds gathered for the excellent fireworks display that got underway at about 8.30 pm on Friday night.

The Uckfield Carnival was celebrating its 177th year after originally being set up by shopkeepers. The bonfire and carnival society is a big part of the local bonfire celebrations and their procession and display symbolically kicks off the areas bonfire season.

The torchlight procession began at 7.30pm from Grange Road after the adults fancy dress competition. Bonfire prayers were said at 9pm and this was followed by the Grand Torchlight Procession.

Luxford Field was very busy during the afternoon and evening as the Fun Fair and refreshment stands provided great entertainment and refreshment for all.
